MDHS
Moree & District Historical Society (MDHS) is a not-for-profit association incorporated in Moree NSW. The Society is a registered charity and holds Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. MDHS is in the process of restoring the former NSW Lands Department building in Moree’s historic precinct in order to establish the Moree Plains Museum.
Our Misson
The mission of the Moree & District Historical Society and Moree Plains Museum is to collect, conserve and display the history that has shaped our district for future generations, and visitors to appreciate the heritage of the Moree town and district ‘linking generations’.
Our Objective
The chief objective of MDHS is to promote the study, collection and preservation of Moree district’s history, historical places and objects and to make these artefacts, locations, records and collections available for public access.
Our Activities
- Conducting historical research
- Answering enquiries about our pioneering families and local history
- Maintaining, conserving, and displaying a collection of artefacts, documents, publications, maps, photographs and other items
- Creating indexes that allow information to be accessed more easily
- Publishing an annual journal and various books about the district, its people and organisations
- Promoting local history and heritage through our Facebook page; involvement with local government and organisations; publications
- Organising historical displays and tours for the community

Our Members
We are a volunteer organisation made up of 50 members working to preserve, protect and provide historical information to the district community and visitors.
Donations
The Society accepts donations of all kinds, including items of a local historical nature as well as photographs, historical publications and other material in accordance with our Acquisitions/Accessions Policy.
We can assess your old photos, books and research material that you may otherwise have been planning to dispose to. Please contact us before consigning your grandparents/parents ‘stuff’.
Covid
In accordance with NSW Health guidelines, it is preferred that members and visitors be fully vaccinated. Masks optional – social distancing advised.
