Bugler Knibbs refurbished Boer War medals along with his son’s WWII refurbished medals. These can be viewed at the Moree Plains Museum.

Both sets had the original ribbons replaced and the WWII put in the correct order by Medals of Service, NSW.

Boer War Medals are for:

Laing’s Nek

Transvall

Degence of Ladysmith

The WWII Medals are for service 4 days after D Day and all through France, Belguim, and Getmany. The other three are for Active Service.

The old ribbons were kept and are in storage.

The Moree & District Historical Society has played a key role in preserving the heritage of the Moree region for over six decades. It was originally established in the late 1950s to research and publish a history of Moree and its surrounding district, timed to coincide with the town’s centenary celebrations in 1962. After a brief hiatus, the Society was reformed in 1972 and has continued to grow in both scope and activity.
In 2019, the Society took a significant step forward by becoming the sole tenant of the historic former Moree Lands Office, a building dating back to 1893. Over the next five years, members worked tirelessly to transform the space into Moree’s first general museum. Their efforts came to fruition on 20 April 2024, when the museum officially opened to the public. Since then, it has attracted a steady flow of visitors, both local and from further afield, who have responded enthusiastically to its exhibits.
Currently, the Society is developing a new display focused on the story of water in the Moree Plains—an essential and enduring element of the region’s identity and development.
